"To say My hometown wasn’t a hockey hotbed is putting it very lightly.  I can tell you one thing for sure; I am the first ever professional hockey player to come from San Jacinto, California.  If you have never heard of it, I completely understand.  Let’s just say no one would ever vacation there.  The hockey part of my life comes from my mom’s Canadian blood.  Three of my four siblings were born there, and we bounced around from Canada to the US up until I was two years old.  My brothers and sister played hockey, so it was a path that was sort of laid out for me at a young age.  Because we lived in California, there wasn’t much ice around, so we all played roller hockey.  At the age of ten, I switched over to ice and started my journey as a California hockey player.  It has been the hardest journey of my life, but one I am grateful for, as it has shaped me into who I am today"
